LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Happy Holidays from the golf maintenance staff ! It has been an eventful year with two hurricanes passing directly over Polk County . I believe we faired well considering the devastation on both the southwest and southeast coasts of Florida . There is always something to be thankful for .
The month of December is a chance for the maintenance staff to take a breath from our weekly mowing schedules and accomplish other tasks on the course . We have been focusing on improving the bunkers and edging cart paths . This will give the golf course that last step that I think we have been missing to push it over the top . The bunkers are an ongoing struggle , and we are trying to reestablish them to a better condition . We will continue to address this problem hole by hole until we can get the look and playability to a higher level . The cart paths will be a month-long chore because they have not been done in a while . We will try to focus on 2 – 3-hole blocks at a time so we can make sure that the quality of the work represents the standard we are trying to set .
We have come a long way in the past year . The golf course has responded well to the agronomic practices that were put in place and I am excited for what the future brings to the club . Greens continue to improve as well as our spray program for turf weeds . These areas have been my main focus since day 1 , and we are getting some great results . I hope everyone in our small south Lakeland community continues to be involved and enjoy the golf course as much as I do !
