Golf Course Renovation & Summer Maintenance Update
As the golfing season winds down, we have completed our spray applications to eliminate the Jones Dwarf Bermuda grass on the greens and are now gearing up for a busy summer of course improvements. Our greens renovation project will be a major focus, along with various smallerscale enhancements handled by our maintenance crew.
Greens Renovation Timeline & Process
The greens project is expected to take approximately two months to prepare the surface for planting the new TifEagle Bermuda grass. Here’ s a breakdown of the process:
1. Sod Removal: The top 2 – 3 inches of sod will be stripped from every green.
2. Soil Excavation: Up to 6 inches of soil will be removed down to the rock drainage zone of the greens profile.
3. New Base Layer Installation: A 6-inch base layer of coarse sand and organic materials will be added to enhance drainage and firmness.
4. Tarping & Fumigation: The new material will be tarped and fumigated to ensure it is free from weed seeds.
5. Waiting Period: A 10-day wait will follow fumigation before planting.
6. Sprigging: The new TifEagle Bermuda grass sprigs will be laid and cut in before the Fourth of July holiday.
7. Grow-In Period: Our team will take over watering and fertilizing to establish the turf, which will take approximately 1 – 2 months before we can begin mowing and adjusting the height of cut.
