B-17 Visit: The B-17 Aluminum Overcast will be here next month and John Kiethly at Santa Theresa was talked to to make sure that this event doesn ' t take away from their B-17 event the next week. National EAA will be mentioning both of our sites in their advertising at the same time. Anticipated arrival will be January 9th subject to weather and mechanical problems.
Press day and media flight January 12th 2:00 PM., `1:30 PM. Arrival time for participants. All are welcome to come out for that but no help should be needed. Flight schedule, Friday and Saturday January 13th and 14th flights will be scheduled ant 10, 11 12 and 1. On Sunday, flights will be scheduled at 12 and 1.
Chris Campbell brought up the question of whether Hotel Incanto was sponsoring their visit. He believes that they can be persuaded to sponsor them thus reducing or eliminating their hotel stay visit cost. Thank you Chris.
The level of support needed for this event is not high. We need two people to run a concession stand and two more to help with moving people around during the event. Volunteers were asked for. Carol and Wes Baker will volunteer, as will John Hotovec. Wes made the point that this would be a good time to recruit for Young Eagles and even a time to offer“ free” rides to those interested in our aircraft. It would be kind of cool to be in the pattern with a B-17!
A proposal was made and passed to sell a chance for a ride in the B-17 as a raffle. Tickets will be on sale for $ 10 a chance for a ride. These will be available at the December and January Breakfasts. Others who want to ride who are EAA members can purchase a ticket at $ 400 instead of the $ 449 price.
Dan Allison, retired from FAA, is getting his DAR certification. This will be good because he can inspect airplanes being built without us having to ask someone down from Albuquerque. He is also very active in several car clubs and he has all the car clubs coming out that Sunday. So we will have a car club show going on that same Sunday. We should get more people out that way and get more people into the airplane. The ground tour schedule should be Friday and Saturday following the last flight of the day and Sunday 8 to 11. Hal of Southwest Aviation will be offering a fuel discount and probably Francis Aviation also. The airplane will be parked down by Southwest Aviation.
Young Eagles: Chris Campbell has taken over the Young Eagles effort.( Thank you Chris).
Waiex Project: Engine parts are in. Wiring is progressing thanks to Mel. Battery is installed. Cowling fitting is underway. We need an SAE-1 prop hub and are looking for one. We bought a fancy intake manifold but it won ' t work with the other engine configuration, so Fritz will buy it back and we will use a standard intake manifold. The canopy is completed thanks to Mark. An appraisal needs to be done so that we can come up with a fair price for selling the plane. Also, a club needs to be formed for plane ownership. Discussion is ongoing. ….
