ETOWN : EXPLORING NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA to filming .
“ They called us , and we knew it would be great for our town . So we got to work . Stephen Spielberg , almost all the stars from the film , people from every continent and every city in the U . S . ... people come from all over the world to see us .”
Typically running from April- August , the museum also offers off season tours by appointment .
“ You know , I was looking to retire , but then they went and made another film . I ’ m already seeing a lot of renewed interest in our museum . It ’ s only February , and I already have people leaving inordinate amounts of messages asking for tours ,” Wade said .
While the museum is a wonderful experience , they also offer a lot of other opportunities . On Sept . 14 , they will be hosting a storm chaser car show , and the community can look forward to something exciting next year as the 30-year anniversary inches closer .
“ We will be headed to the Tonkawa
Film Festival , and with our anniversary coming up , we already have several of the actors from the original film that will be making an appearance : Sean Whalen who played Sanders , and Wendle Josepher who plays Hayes , have already confirmed they will be joining us ,” Wade said .
“ Hollywood may have shut down our town for four months , but the revenue , change and public interest from the film continues to improve the economy of our small town even three decades later ,” she said . “ Our museum is free to the public , but donations are what keep our doors open . Every little bit helps . If you ’ re looking for a fun outing for a date , or family night , you don ’ t want to miss us . ‘ Twister ’ has become a part of Oklahoma history . And it ’ s so fun to share that with the public .”
