“ A lot of us got to meet and speak with the crew and staff as they were constantly milling about . Many of the leads kept to themselves , but Bill Paxton , he was everyone ’ s favorite .”
Bill Paxton , a heavy hitting lead actor known for “ Apollo 13 ,” “ Tombstone ” and “ Titanic ,” grew up in Texas .
“ He just understood the Midwest . He understood our severe weather . He would always be out and about playing football with some of our kids . He was quick with a smile , a photo , or a genuine conversation ,” Wade said .
You can find photos of Paxton with locals on the walls of the fun museum among other great memorabilia .
“ I think our biggest attraction is Dorothy , a major prop from the film that is a capsule-like device containing hundreds of small weather sensors that they release in the film hoping to revolutionize weather warnings ,” Wade said .
While a fictitious machine , the film did spark an upsurge in storm chasing and weather reporting .
“ After the film , I noticed a lot more interest in meteorology from people that would come to the museum or people that I met around town ,” Wade said .
