We are still attempting to come to terms with Garry ’ s death , and our love and thoughts are with Garry ’ s family and friends . Wayne , Jeremy and I were privileged to work closely with Garry , as his Advisory Team representing the Franchisees of Autobarn . Our meetings were robust , to say the least , but we were always given the respected , no matter the outcome . We have many great memories of our times together , the lunches , the wine … Here are a few of our thoughts as we honour our mate . G . D . pushed the boundaries , crossed the boundaries , in fact , he didn ’ t have boundaries at times ( and I ’ m not referring to his house )! There was never a dull moment when he was around , and he lit up the room when he walked in . When he talked , people listened . He was a great communicator . He made things happen and happen quickly . He was one of the most interesting and exciting people we have ever met . He took the reins at autobarn when there was a lot of unrest in the group . He had a vision of where the business needed to go and set about creating a path , and encouraged the franchisees to come along for the ride . He loved a deal and understood retail . He made many of us better retailers . He knew everyone ’ s name and their families ; he had the ability to make you feel special . Our time on the advisory committee was full of great times , camaraderie , and mutual respect for one another . We didn ’ t always see eye to eye , but we got things done and had a bloody good time doing it . Saying they broke the mould when they made G . D is a cliché but is true . We know no one like him and will miss him . Wayne Wode , Jeremy Holmes & Rod Patterson
