Just in case you escape the lure of the Cineplex and your local HMV, you cannot miss Ms Knowles’s foray into commercials. L’Oreal, True Star for Tommy Hilfiger (a one day shoot that apparently cost the ailing fashion house $ 3 million) and wait for it… the inevitable clothing deal. Brace yourself for fashions from the House of Dereon, a label Beyoncé will run with her mother Tina and named after her grandmother Agnes Dereon who was a seamstress. Details are sketchy about exact figures but last year’s wheeling and dealing saw Beyoncé debut in the Forbes Celebrity Rich List at an impressive number 19 with a fortune of $ 23m (£12m). Would Beyonce’s talent have found another path from Texas to Top of the Pops? Probably. But Mathew Knowles’s dogged determination has seen his little girl become a millionaire many times over with the world at her expertly pedicured feet. “Beyoncé Knowles is proud to be daddy’s little girl but for how much longer?” The more important question is how many of our youngsters are missing out on their destinies because we are happy just to let our young charges happen upon fame instead of building the path with our bare hands?
