ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award
when she was recognized for her contribution
in 2001. Her multi-platinum solo debut album
D ang erously I n L ov e spawned the monster
hit Craz y I n L ov e and had millions of selfrespecting females trying to shake their
backsides and pop gum at the same time
with the guys looking on in quiet appreciation.
The album also introduced the public to
Beyoncé as a gossip column regular. As she
played hide and seek with the press and public
about her relationship with rapper Jay-Z,
Beyoncé chose to remain coy about her
private life.
“I don’t talk about who I’m
dating and who I’m not
anymore. It gets crazy and
confusing.”
“It’s funny some of the people they say I’m
dating, but I can’t say who in case they read it
and get mad at me. I’ve always been private. At
school if I dated somebody I didn’t go around
telling everybody.”
Whilst a few of us would do a double take of
Beyoncé’s choice in potential husbands, anyone
listening to the almost tooth-rottingly sweet
dedication to her Daddy on her debut offering
will know this beauty values strength of
character above all other traits in a man. In
his own way, Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter has pulled
himself up from his drug dealing past to head
Def Jam Recordings, a multi-million dollar
commercial concern. Tabloid reports claim
Knowles senior might not have hand-picked
Jigga for his princess but his 23-year old charge
is all grown up and ready to branch out on her
own. »
