Drum’s Ayo Alli meets David Adjaye.
“ I don’t have a singular influence. That would
be a simple way of trying to read the complex.”
–David Adjaye on his style.
H
e is extremely precise with his words. He could
almost be a politician in his method of dealing
with interviewers. He considers the question at
length, and is oh-so-cautiously-precise about being ‘on
message’ in his replies. This verbal precision should
come as little surprise. David is one of the leading lights
in today’s architectural firmament. And, after all,
architecture is about precision above all else. In fact the
German philosopher, Friedrich von Schelling, once said,
“Architecture in general is frozen music”. This notion
certainly applies to Adjaye’s work. »
