Learning Styles
How does your learner, learn
Support material TA 8 & TA 9
There are many methods documented and you would need a degree in psychology to understand some of them. We will deal with just three Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic
Visual – you physically show them what you want them to do and then get them t copy it.
Auditory-- You verbally explain what you want them to do, maybe several times before they understand and then they have ago.
Kinaesthetic-- Kinesthetic learning is a learning style in which learning takes place by the student actually carrying out a physical activity, rather than listening to a lecture or merely watching a demonstration. It is also referred to as tactile learning. People with a kinesthetic learning style are also commonly known as do-ers.
So how do you know what type of learner they are, well there are quick and simple tests (see attached).
When carry out the VAK test you see that most people have one style more prominent than the others. But most people learning takes place from a multitude of styles. So for example if the learner shows a preference for say kinesthetic, do not just use this on it’s own as learning can take place by using the others.
