HGV LGV Training can reveal that, since its inception back in 2008, Driver CPC training has raised over 30 million pounds of revenue for the UK Government.

Following a freedom of information request we made over a fortnight ago, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has passed on the details of how much revenue they have received for the various chargeable services relating to both training centres and drivers.

These include:

• £18.7 million for uploading fees (Drivers £1.25 per hour)

• £1.8 million for training centre approval

• £3.7 million for training course approval

• £3.3 million for initial Driver CPC theory test

• £2.6 million for initial Driver CPC testing

(The figures shown above have been rounded to the nearest hundred thousand.)

Re-investment?

Included in our FOI request, we wanted to ascertain how much money the DSA and the Department for Transport (DfT) had re-invested in Driver CPC by way of financial advertising. The government body confirmed that, to date, a total of just £322,515 had been spent on publicity.

Representatives at the DSA advised us that since 2010, there has been a freeze on advertising expenditure for Driver CPC and therefore nothing had been spent. Since then, all official communications have been made through stakeholder partnerships, trade press and digital transmission at no cost to the Government.

This means that for the past 3 years, other than running costs for Driver CPC (such as the administration of JAUPT, a dedicated computer system, manufacturing costs for DQCs, personnel salaries) little money has been re-invested.
