It should also be noted that some belong to more than one association.
So from the above 2/3rds don't want a grading system. Does your national association agree or do they have a agenda to force through an unwanted scheme.
We are fully aware that some instructors like a grade to promote themselves on their driving school web site., but the general public have no idea what the grade means; many just book lessons through recommendation. Many more pupils base their choise of the price of the lessons. We know this shouldn;t be the case but in the real world it is.
The Chief Driving Examiner Lesley Young did state at a meeting in October that the DVSA were keen to see some form of indicator of an instructors ability, but at that time nothing had been decided.
At the end of the day DVSA will decide and unfortunately the driving instructor will just have to go along with it.
As the DVSA has already moved away from testing ability in favour of the EU directive for compliance to standards, this would be a good opportunity to end the grading system. Ability can be graded; standards are either met or not met. This is all that should be measured.
