A Singular Harmony
Change and Smells
Whilst thinking about how these words operate within the city , we thought about the meaning of the word scent , the idea that we leave a trace through smell , and that we can remember something that ’ s changed through a scent .
We chose to explore Józsefváros .
It represents a place of change within the city , with a mixture of people , races and class backgrounds . There is a combination of the Chinese community , gypsy communities , new wealth and homelessness . This level of diversity and changing social structure make it an engaging starting point .
Our idea culminated with us walking through district 8 as a form of mapping practice .
This walk was guided by our senses : an alternative way to experience , a sensorial approach rather than a traditional tourist guide . We documented every single step and wrote feeling statements trying to map the changing opinions and reactions to each street .
