So , through the analysis and interpretation of sound , semiotics and lexical semantics , and with writers such as Roland Barthes and Stuart Hall in mind , we visited various sites in the city and compiled videos of different sound producers as a starting point . From there , we gathered words in each language that could be used to describe the sounds we experienced . After recording these words as voice-overs for the muted , desaturated footage , we composed a program whereby you could listen to and navigate between three separate language audio channels using a triangular crossfader , while being able to play multiple videos simultaneously to create a kind of linguistic city soundscape ; all with the scope to holistically re-represent the diverse personal , sensual and cognitive processes of digesting sounds and environments .
