The subject of our project are our fellow citizens of Belgrade — pigeons . The phenomenon of wildlife now living out of their natual habitat caused the making of new species . Now their new home — the city , imposed new habits , new way of behaving , eating , nesting … And therefore made a new type of pigeon , a domestic — urban pigeon .
Our series of triptychs are depicting all layers of our mutual lives in the city . Pigeons influence on humans and their products , and vice-versa . From the objective point of view , we show both sides of every story . The central scene is telling the main story , and secondary pictures are completing the storyline . The black and white manner is inspired by the monochrome palette of pigeons . Also , this effect is giving our photos that time-stopping moment , a feeling of timelessness which makes us look deeper . All of the photos were documented in Belgrade , on “ mapping the local ” workshop , in less then a day .
The most common association of the city is the crowd . Visually , a flock of pigeons is perfecty representing the city life which is always loud , crowded and in a hurry . It can be beautiful to observe it from far away but unpleasant up close . This also reflects on our human nature , loving the pretty view but not the whole , not so beautiful , truth . Speaking of which , the urban pigeon as a new spieces with new circumstances of living , has transformed , unfortunately , into an ungraceful bird . Living mostly off of human garbage , simply because it ’ s convenient and a very easy source of food . Traces of pigeons are visible everywhere , even though they aren ’ t . Feathers , footprints , and “ natural marks ” are their most common associations . All of these symbols are associated with happiness and luck , even though some may dissagree with the most common saying that it ’ s good luck when you get “ marked ” by pigeons .
