I. RENEWABLE ENERGY

I1.
PRE-PLUMBING FOR SOLAR WATER HEATING
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION Note that this measure is mutually exclusive with measure I3. One point of credit will be awarded for implementing all of the following practices: Install one of the following:

– Two insulated plumbing pipes( at least ¾ inch copper or stainless) from the roof / attic area to the building’ s main water header area
– An accessible straight chase, conduit, or sleeve with an internal diameter of at least three inches( that is, large enough for a one-inch pipe plus one inch of insulation). The chase should be capped off and airtight.
Install electrical conduit( minimum one inch) from the roof / attic area to a junction box next to the water heater in preparation for pump power and controller wiring. Engineer the roof trusses to handle an additional load of five pounds per square foot beyond that of the anticipated load for the roofing material. Ensure that adequate space is available for a 100-gallon solar storage tank with a pressure-relief drain line. Verify the capacity of the load of the pump. Install a receptacle outlet; the outlet does not need to be wired or life, but it should be installed such that wiring can be run in the future with relative ease. Provide section of south or west roof area of at least 64 square feet, clear of vent pipes and other obstructions, to allow for the installation of modules.
The pre-plumbing does not need to penetrate the roof.
VERIFICATION
Field Verification: The Rater will conduct field compliance verification and take photos of pipes, electrical conduit, receptacle box, and available roof area.
Documentation: The Rater will collect a building and / or mechanical plan detailing the materials, systems, layout, and roof loads associated with the pre-plumbing.
