HOME(S)/DEVELOPMENT LOCATED WITHIN ½ MILE OF A MAJOR TRANSIT STOP CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION Two points of credit will be awarded if the home(s) or development is located within ½ mile of a major transit stop. A major transit stop is defined as a light rail, subway, passenger rail, or ferry stop, or at least two existing or planned (and funded) bus lines, constituting 60 or more transit rides per weekday (i.e., combined bus, rail, and ferry) and 40 weekend trips (must be met on Saturday and Sunday). If only commuter rail or ferry stops are available, the thresholds for credit are 24 weekday trips and 6 weekend trips. Each distinct route number is a line. Distance is measured as a public, standard, and safe pedestrian path of travel from the home. For developers of larger communities, the distances can be measured from the center of the community, as long as the distance from the center of the community to the furthest home does not exceed ¼ mile. Using this approach, whole communities can be qualified for this measure. For any homes further than ¼ mile from the center of the community, distances must be recalculated for each home. “Transit rides per weekday” are calculated as follows: ? ? ? Count all of the transit stops within a ½ mile radius. Multiply each of the transit stops by the number of buses/trains/ferries that pass through the stop in a 24 hour period. Add the total number of rides available at each stop. For example, if there are 4 bus stops within ½ mile, and the service frequency for each stop is half-hourly (48 times per day), the total transit rides per day is 192. If the transit has not been built, appropriate documentation must indicate that the transit will meet required service levels and that transit options will be in place no later than the date of 50% construction completion of the development, or within a year of the completion of phase one.
