A Post-industrial (pre-consumer) recycled content is counted at half the rate of post-consumer recycled content. VERIFICATION Field Verification: Representative photos are recommended, but not required. Site Documentation: The Rater will collect site aggregate calculations noting the recycled content aggregate on supplier invoices or specifications. INTENT To promote recycling efforts, reduce the pressure on landfills, and reduce the need to mine new resources. A3. HEAT ISLAND EFFECT REDUCTION (NON-ROOF) CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION One point of credit is available for implementing any one of the following sets of practices: ? Incorporate light-colored materials in at least 50% of the site’s impervious area (e.g., walkways, driveways, plazas, and parking areas), excluding the building footprint. The material must have a solar reflectance greater than 0.3 or a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) greater than 29%. Uncolored concrete with or without any proportion of fly ash and/or slag may be assumed to have a solar reflectance of 0.3 or SRI of 29%. Design and install overhangs, shading elements, trees, and shrubs (or preserve existing trees and shrubs) to shade at least 50% of sidewalks, patios, and driveways within 50 feet of the house (based on noon on June 21 at 15 years’ growth). Uncolored concrete with or without any proportion of fly ash and/or slag may be assumed to have a solar reflectance of 0.3 or SRI of 29%. ? ? VERIFICATION Field Verification: The Rater shall comp lete field verification and take representative photos of complying materials and practices. Documentation: The documentation should include the following as appropriate: ? ? ? A site plan with material and shading (if appropriate) Area calculations An Accountability Form with criteria signed by the builder, developer, or architect INTENT To reduce the impact of residual heat build-up in developed areas (also known as the urban heat island effect).
