The Douglas High football team couldn’t overcome a slew of turnovers and missed opportunities Friday night as the Tigers lost to North Valleys 42-7 in Reno.
The Panthers got on the board first last in the first quarter on a 51-yard touchdown run from Alex Palko.
Douglas then fumbled on its next play from scrimmage and the Panthers drove back down for another touchdown, this time on a 12-yard keeper by quarterback Melando Cachapero.
Douglas later drove down to the Panther 2-yard-line but lost a fumble on second-and-goal. Tiger linebacker Kaleb Foster recovered a fumble on the Panthers’ next drive, but North Valleys turned around and intercepted a pass to end another promising drive. Douglas quarterback Nick Abreu completed a 43-yard pass to Foster on that drive before the turnover.
Two plays later, North Valleys went up 21-0 on a 13-yard run from Cachapero.
On the first play from scrimmage of the second half, Douglas’ Cale Kynett broke a number of tackles up the middle and rumbled 64 yards for a touchdown.
