Practice
The only way that we can get better at the things that we love is to practice. Artists tend to not practice their own songs to the fullest extent because they minimize the importance of putting on a great show. Have you considered your breathing, your movements, or even how to create crowd participation? Every singer ,rapper , performer will make a mistake. How you recover from these mistakes makes the difference. Practice will minimize your chances for train wrecks on stage . Actually take the time to develop a performance , dont just wing it. You should be rehearsing for your performance at least a month out. It is a proven fact that if you invest into your show , the audience will invest in you.
Always Be Willing To Learn
Be a student of your craft. Being a opening act is an opprotunity for you to take advantage of the exposure aspect but it is not your only benefit. In between sets and after the show is when all the networking happens. It is your job to be there. Cutting out after your performance is literally like cutting yourself out of future engagements. I would encourage every artist to watch the headliners performance to learn what to do . You can also learn what not to do from watching other acts, so be discerning of the what you incorporate into your performance.
If you as an artist take the time to invest in the buisness side as much as you do the art side, you then have the advantage. The devil is in the details and this industry is a perfect example of that . Every show , every connection made is a new opprotunity for you. dont miss out because of poor preparation.
