Being professional
Being professional can almost be considered a lost art in the entertainment industry . There are two sides to the industry , the art and the business. Being on time , having your music prepared, being dressed to perform, and meeting and greeting the staff and other artists are just a few things that are expected of you at every performance . You might be just an opening act, but people are paying attention to how you handle yourself. You have started making a reputation for yourself from the load in. How you handle yourself in the preparation is key to being invited back or recommended for the next opprotunity.
Soundcheck
Soundcheck is important to every performer not just the headliners . The sound engineer is the invisible member of your show. It is a good idea to develop a repoire with the engineer. Respect his art and his expertise. Ask questions. If you are unsure, the engineer would gladly rather educate you rather than correct you. He knows his equipment and how to make your show sound the best that it possibly can.Thats his job. A good rule of thumb to remeber is to use your loudest song for sound check . This will create boundaries to work within and gives way for dynamics in your show.
Stage presence and technique
Stage presence and technique hard things to learn when you dont have a mentor. This is the part where you have to do your homework. Go to shows, watch celebrity shows, and find out what makes the difference between performing your songs and performing a great show. Most artists have the misconception that the people are in the building to watch you perform. The truth of the matter is that they are there to be entertained. its is very possible for a audience member not remeber a single word from your music, but they will remember if you put on a great show. One great performace will bring them back, and at the end of the day isn't that the point.
