WAO 2013- team Wales
Tell us on what is based your workout / agility training. Does it changes before a big event?
With Spice I try to ensure that we get a good balance of training and general exercise. I try to ensure we train at least twice a week and do little some balance and trick training in between. I have a private lesson weekly with Barrie James who is a fab trainer and always pushes me to my limit and has helped me achieve so much. I also train with my local club and spend some time working my dogs on my own where I can break sequences down and focus on individual pieces of equipment. However Spice is a spaniel and loves exploring so we spend a lot of time walking or going running.
I tend not to vary things much before a big event, I think we have a good structure to training and a good balance so do not need to change it.
In recent years in agility the teams have been working a lot on speed and technique and the judges offering more and more difficult courses. How do you think this sport will grow more, in which way?
I think that as dogs get faster and tighter we will see the need for more technology to support judging. The speed of some dogs over the contacts even now making judging them challenging.
In the UK we are already seeing more spread out courses and trying to learn from some of the european handling styles and I can continue to see this grow within the UK.
