At the 1st edition of the WAO you have already represented Wales with Spice and racked up good results, last year in Belgium you ended on the podium in the Individual Pentathlon Championship. Now in March at the Crufts you have finished 2nd in the finals... This means that your determination and your relationship with Spice has become something magical. What do you think has changed over the years?
I have become a lot more confident and started to trust myself and Spice. She is quite a headstrong little dog and I have struggled a bit with my nerves at major events in the past. But recently I have really been enjoying running her, I feel we have developed a very strong bond and we have become a real team. I spent the early years struggling to control her and now I just love the thrill of working with her. Hearing her screaming with excitement is just the most amazing sound, she gives me 110 % every run and I try to do her justice as a handler.
Thinking back about the World Agility Open, which run comes to your mind for first?
I think it has to be the first round of the pentathlon, the first agility course judged by Lee Gibson, it was a pretty tough course with a challenging weave entry and tunnel trap. Spice had a fantastic run and it really set the scene for the whole event and just gave me so much confidence in what we could achieve. Whenever I need a confidence boost I look back over my video of that run!
