DMA Riverside Review October 2017 Riverside Review USE THIS 30 Oct | Página 3

Everything here moves fast in this organization. I was still in-processing when the Defense Media Activity Riverside hosted the 75 th Anniversary Workshop. Somehow a multitude of people and organizations synced to pull off hosting the event in coordination with AFRTS (now AFN) Headquarters at Ft. Meade. AFN Radio’s Staff Sgt. Kristina Lacoste and Senior Airman Samantha Hagan volunteered administrative support, working early mornings, a weekend and evenings to prepare 120 folders, badges and maps. The Defense Media Activity Forward’s MC2 Billy Ho and MC2 Chris Frost developed an internal map of our building and a PowerPoint show of current and former AFN broadcast journalists. Defense Imagery Management Operations Center’s (DIMOC’s) Steve McGill volunteered to design the 75th Anniversary badges. The Management Support Office’s (MSO) Paul Kirchmann and Katy Griffith laminated the badges. Others from team MSO set up exterior and interior signs reserving parking spots and providing directions, expedited hanging up TV monitors for the workshop. Engineering’s Glenn Wells and TAFT’s Wayne Murphy, Debbie Jones, Stephen Palau tested and ensured the audio-visual system was hooked up and working, to include holding multiple Google Hangouts, something never before done in our newly renovated auditorium. Congratulations to the Marketing and Promo- tions Team for winnin g First Place in the Defense Media Awards category of “Outstanding Communication Plan.” I am truly proud to be a part of a winning team! Last but not least, I want to thank Ms. Sherry Reiter, Mr. Charlie Gill, Mr. Jim Alexander, Mr. Curt Eckstein, Mr. Ellis Davis and Mr. Cesar Hernan- dez in recognition of their many years of service in the government of the United States of America. Thank you so much for serving those who serve! While this is AFN’s 75 th birthday year, the “presents” are going to our audience: all TV services in High Definition and a new decoder that allows viewers to record two different shows while watching, pausing and Volume 3, Issue 4 fast-forwarding through a third. Our engineering team, to include Jerry Shorter, Jim Alexander, Dave Boyer and Paul Merlino remains heavily immersed in this project. At this time we project most of our audience will have HD services and the new decoder by December. A multitude of DMA organizational and operational changes continue to impact us in ways both large and small. As I write this, there is still a hiring pause, which means there are a number of positions that remain vacant, requiring some of you to pick up additional work load. During times of change like this, it’s human nature to sometimes get caught up in it and get worried or stressed. I’ve been through my fair share of change in my career, and have found the best way to get through turbulent, frequently changing times is to stay ultra-flexible and don’t worry about changes happening above you that you have no control over/don’t try to understand it! I look forward to working with you in the years ahead! LTC Catina Barnes Director, AFN Broadcast Center Photo by MC2 Emiline Senn, USN Page 3
