Fans of synth music will surely be
aware of the new Jean-Michel
Jarre album 'Electronica'. If not the
first thing to do is click THIS LINK
to check out the album trailer. The
idea with the album was to pull
from his inspirations and a "tribe of
friends" to create collaborations
with artists such as Pete
Townsend, Vince Clarke, Armin Van
Buuren, Air, Moby, Massive Attack, Tangerine Dream, M83, John Carpenter and more! As you can imagine each collaboration pulls the music in a different
direction more towards what they're known for which is an interest way to structure the album. If you've read this far and don't know who Jean-Michel Jarre is then I suggest listening to his biggest track 'Oxygen'. Which if you're
familiar with the arcades peppering British seasides you will no doubt have heard playing out of the arcade machines. There's some interesting chat
surrounding the album from Sonic State as it was a topic in a recent Sonic Talk Podcast and also there's a great video from Native Instruments titled 'Jean-Michel Jarre on the evolution of music technology" which you can click and watch right here in the magazine or click here to check the video on my
website.
Roland have visited game music producer and sound designer Petri Alanko at his home studio in Finland to chat modular synths and the role of the Roland AIRA range in his work. It's clearly made to promote the AIRA range but nicely the video isn't too heavily swayed that way and looks at the use of his modular set up in general. In the video (again you can click play right here in the
magazine or click here to watch that on my site) the game in question is
Quantum Break which is an up-coming third person shooter for XBOX so expect those big block buster FX with an electronic backdrop throughout. The original post from Roland with their blog style post and video is here.
