I stumbled upon this documentary 'The Art of Listening' watching Antonio Sanchez drum videos after a student (I teach drums) put me onto Birdman (Sanchez did the soundtrack). The documentary goes through the intent of instrument makers, composers and producers. It's narrated by conversations with artists and engineers. Worth watching, so click HERE.
Here's a final "thing from around the web" and it's another documentary. I'll be honest and say I'm only 5 minutes into this but had to break off and thought it was worth sharing. It's a BBC documentary about music moguls, the people making money out of music. Click HERE for that.
NEWS
Post NAMM blues? Modular news seems relatively quiet but I think that's the 'quiet after the storm' of NAMM releases. However there's a couple of noteworthy Kickstarters on the go.
First up is the already incredibly successful Kickstarter from Synthesis Technology with the E370. At the time of writing it's $168,462 into a $58,000 funding goal. The kickstarter is currently working through the final 3 stretch goals (added goals that happen if extra funding is reached). We've already had a new multi-platform wavetable editor and linear FM. We've now got "floating VCO modulation" options, meaning you can morph wavetables in the cloud generator mode (like a big mash up of the synthesis tech digital offers before it all in one). We've also got 4-note chord mode for each of the four oscillator and the final goal is for a full re-write of the DSP to support through zero FM. I've had an E350 Morphing Terrarium for a while now and the idea of an updated, higher spec quad oscillator from Synthesis Technology is really exciting. Check out the Kickstarter HERE. Paul at Synth Tech was also kind enough to support the magazine with a few adverts, so click away, bag an E370 HERE and make us all happy. (last minute edit, it's smashed through $180k!)
