Well as you'd expect all the
news this month surrounds
NAMM. The winter NAMM
is January each year is the
world's largest (maybe
they have a killer one on
Jupiter) music trade show
that despite what many
people think is a trade to
trade show, not a public event. That said getting a guest pass or artist pass through a manufacture exhibiting seems easy enough and the influx of that has definitely changed the event but, what do I know I've never been! This year I decided to cover the event and blog about it collating information coming from various blogs and video channels. Why when I wasn't there? Well, I decided I'd add some personal ideas and further investigation to each post. Such as delving into the time lag accumulator effect developed by Terry Riley in the 1960's which is in the new Make Noise Morphagene and looking at uncommon EQ frequency spacings in the Verbos Bark filter and also the Serge Res EQ. So well worth a read (if I do say so myself) to see the coverage a bit more than the average re-post of content. Make Noise updated their module the Phonogene (originally developed with Gotharman) which will still be supported with the new Morphagene (developed with Tom Erbe who also worked with Make Noise on the Echophon and ErbeVerb). The morphagene is a stereo sampler and sample player based around tape reels and saving those reels with slices for manipulation with the module. I was just going to say "Surprisingly Eventide entered eurorack ..." but I don't really think it is surprising to be honest. Their announced module is a mono delay with plenty of CV inputs but no sound (non working prototype I think was the official line I saw) so time will tell how that turns out.
