to keep an eye on the sand ( bottom ); angel sharks and stingrays are perfect camouflage artists and once landed , it takes less than three seconds for them to cover themselves with sand , and often only their eyes are visible afterward .
The incredibly long steep wall called El Calamareo has a completely different characteristic . The attribute „ insanely long “ is entirely justified , as it stretches from a point just five minutes away from Corralejo harbour past Los Lobos all the way to Lanzarote . Great for all disciples of Neptune : where the dive starts , there is a small rock plateau at around twelve metres depth . Ideal for starting the descent at the almost vertical drop-off , which is up to around 22 metres deep .
The rock has an infinite number of crevices , small and large caves . Not only the colourful blunt-tentacled anemones add a splash of colour , but also crust sponges and small , mostly red gorgonians .
Steep walls are always a big fish area . El Calamareo is home to almost all species known to be predators . The dusky grouper does not hide well . Perhaps a small shady cave offers it a good observation post from which it can admire the eagle rays flying el-
