Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Bass Tournament Huge Success !

By Kari Hebrank , Carlton Fields In late April , more than 108 anglers gathered in Okeechobee for the 24th Annual Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Bass Fishing Tournament to catch the biggest bass on Lake Okeechobee . Anglers participate in either guided or unguided categories and try to catch the biggest bass , as well as the most weight for 3 bass snagged each day of the two-day tournament . Captain Todd Kersey , Bass Online , weighs the fish for the anglers and records the weight , keeping the tally accessible on an app for all to view and “ fish trash talk ” waiting for the final weigh-in .
First-time tournament participant Dawn Miller , The Paving Lady , ( Team 24 ) was the top angler for the tournament , coming in First Place in the Guided Category with Captain Mike Jones with an impressive total weight caught of 32.75 lbs . Dawn also caught the largest bass , weighing in at 7.95 lbs .! Second place for the Guided Category went to the Vermeer Team ( Team 36 ) of Steve Miller , Gibby Sarria and Scott Harmin with Captain Jared McMillan with a total weight caught of 28.34 lbs . and the team captured the third biggest bass weighingin at 7.50 lbs . The second-largest bass weighing 7.90 lbs . was snagged by Joni Bohne , VA Paving with Captain Spencer Cook .
