Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Foundation
Distinguished Recipient • Undergraduate
Humberto Enrique Viana, Jr. is this year’s distinguished college recipient of the Andrew
Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s $7500 scholarship. Humberto is a
rising senior at St. John’s University in New York, earning a cumulative 3.85 GPA and
pursuing a degree in actuarial science. Humberto is the son of Humberto Viana, Vice
President of Operations, JD Backhoe, Inc., and Maria “Vicky” Guzman. Enrolled in the
Honors Program and on the Dean’s List, Humberto’s academic accomplishments include
being the recipient of the Catholic Student Scholarship (2015-2017), Academic Excellence
Scholarship (2015-2017), St. John’s Honor Society, and receiving his Actuarial Accreditation
I, II, and III.
Not surprisingly, professors describe Humberto as a leader who has willingly taken
other students under his wing in a mentoring and tutoring role. Moreover, Humberto is
extremely dedicated with tremendous technical and problem-solving skills, an excellent
writer, very professional with a strong work ethic, extremely motivated and full of integrity.
Humberto’s community and civic service include being an actuarial tutor (2015-present),
a Young at Art Museum volunteer dedicating more than 200 hours, a math and statistics
tutor (2015) and an ARC Broward special education classroom volunteer (2013).
To supplement his classroom experience, Humberto has worked previously as an intern
for Advanced Insurance and Marsh & McKennon and is currently interning this summer
with Willis Towers Watson in New York. In addition to excelling academically, Humberto is
also involved with Gamma Iota Sigma and the St. John’s University Actuarial Club.
