NUCA of Florida Success Stories
During the past few years , NUCA of Florida ’ s government affairs program has experienced several victories for our members in both the legislative and regulatory arena . Our advocacy efforts are funded in part by members ’ dues , direct individual donations and through our Bidding for Benjamin ’ s program . Highlights of our accomplishments include :
■ Contributed to 75 candidates during 2022 election cycle with a 92 % victory rate ;
■ Passed legislation reducing retainage from 10 % to 5 % on public works projects ;
■ Defeated legislation that mandated construction employers with employees who work outdoors to implement an outdoor heat exposure safety program and provide annual training , duplicative of current OSHA requirements for
High Heat Injury & Illness Prevention Plans ;
■ �Secured record-high state appropriations for all aspects of water policy and infrastructure improvements , including a new wastewater grant program ;
■ Fought off efforts to expand “ Buy America ” to Florida public works projects for iron and steel ;
■ Passed legislation relating to redaction of court records protecting Notice of Commencement and lien rights for our contractors ;
■ Defeated a bad lien law bill that would have affected lien waivers ;
■ Passed public works legislation that leveled the playing field by requiring self-performing local governments to calculate all costs — insurance , maintenance , equipment , labor , etc .;
