WITH STEVE EAKINS
opportunity to work in every
position, starting from the bottom
at a young age, working my way
up through the ranks.
Why you are in the underground
utility business and how did you
get started?
Eakins: I think question #1 explains
most of it, but to be completely
honest, as a child I would rather
go to a jobsite and work, just
wait for a chance to run a piece
of equipment. Once I was finally
allowed to operate equipment,
that’s all I wanted to do.
Briefly tell us about your
professional background.
Eakins: I am currently Vice
President at D.S. Eakins
Construction Corp., managing all
of the day –to- day operations. We
are a family -owned business that
my parents and aunt built from the
ground up over the last 45 years.
I have worked for the Company
my whole life and have had the

What is your educational
background?
Eakins: I am currently enrolled in
the Doug Eakins School of Hard
Knocks and should hopefully
graduate someday, so I’m told.
Believe it or not, I did actual
graduate from college, Clarkson
University, a small engineering
college in upstate New York,
with a degree in Engineering and
