>> SCHOLARSHIPS ASJMSF Scholarship Distinguished Recipient A recent high school honors graduate from Barron Collier High School in Naples, Michael Dina received a class rank of 26 out of 356 students with a weighted GPA of 5.22 taking demanding Advanced Placement courses while participating in many extracurricular activities. The son of Jasmine and John Dina, who is a project manager at Mitchell & Stark Construction, Michael is this year’s distinguished High School recipient of the Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s $7500 Scholarship. With this scholarship, Michael will enroll at the Florida State University as a freshman in the Fall and plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, with the intent of pursuing a career in the robotics or automotive industry. Teachers describe Michael as bright articulate, independent and even brilliant. With his straight-A grades, Michael was recognized with Department Awards in Human Geography, Pre-Calculus and Spanish, a Robotics Academic Achievement Award, a Sons of the American Revolution Book Award, an AP Scholar of Distinction and as a Top Ten Senior. He was inducted into the National Honor Society. A natural leader amongst his friends and peers, Michael excelled in leadership positions during his extracurricular school activities such as band, where he was Section Leader and Drum Major, Solar Go- Kart Club, where he was President, and Robotics Club, where he was President. He also participated in JV soccer during his first two years of high school. In his “free time,” outside of the school structure, Michael has been an active member of the Optimist Club of Naples, his church youth group and TOPSoccer, which is a community-based training program for athletes with intellectual, emotional, and or physical disabilities. He has also been a Florida Youth Soccer Referee and a soccer coach for the Azzurri Storm.
