Catherine “Cate” Alvaro is an Advanced
Placement Honors recent high-school
graduate, earning an extraordinary
cumulative 4.7636 GPA from Pine View
School in Osprey, Florida. Catherine is
the daughter of Christie Alvaro, General
Manager, Estimating, Ajax Paving Industries
of Florida, LLC, and Dennis Alvaro, a
registered nurse at Doctor’s Hospital of
Sarasota. Catherine is one of this year’s
two distinguished high school recipients
of the Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial
Scholarship Foundation’s $7500 scholarship.
In order to pursue her dream of becoming
a physician, Catherine plans to enroll in
George Washington University to study
Exercise Science with a concentration in
Pre-Med within the Milken School of Public
Health.
Teachers describe Catherine as an
outstanding, multi-talented young
woman with diverse interests, strengths
and passions, most notably academic
scholarship, service leadership and dance.
With regards to academics, ranking in the
top 10 percent of her graduating class of
202 students, Catherine has maintained a
perfect 4.0 unweighted grade point average
in a rigorous academic schedule, including
AP Psychology, AP Human Geography,
AP World History, AP Language and

Composition, AP Biology, AP Statistics and
AP Calculus. Catherine’s academic honors
include AP Scholar with Honors, Pineview
212 Degree Award, Pine View Hall of Fame
Student, American Legion School Award,
Journalism 2 Honors Award and Student of
the Month.
Catherine’s extracurricular activities included
four years on the student newspaper staff
serving as copy editor, sports editor, web
editor and photo editor; three years on
student government, including serving as
historian; two years as Variety Show Director
and choreographer for Mr. Pine View Show;
two years in National Honor Society and 2
years in National Junior Honor Society; three
years in Key Club/Builders Club.
