Seventh District Dr . Andrew Jeffers Involvement means I do not accept being a nonchalant bystander . Dentistry is an ever-evolving profession . It benefits both the professional and the patient to stay relevant and supportive of new concepts and challenges .
As a new dentist in the community , I was introduced to local leaders and realized there is strength and knowledge in a group of professionals who have similar goals and aspirations . My main motivation is to ensure the profession stays current and provides an open forum for discussion , progression , and relevancy .
My personal goals are to continue educating myself so I never become locked into a stagnant state of practice . I want to constantly create a better version of myself as a dentist and to highlight the importance of good dental health as it pertains to the benefit of my patients and the community as a whole .
Standing on the sidelines as a spectator is not conducive to progress . Every person can be the agent of change but you must step forward and invest the time and interest . Like all good investments the payoff can be quite rewarding .
Eighth District Dr . Paul Rees I ’ ve met some wonderful people whose dedication and passion for organized dentistry has been inspirational . I admire their leadership and am proud to have played a small part in advancing our profession .
I was approached by a colleague to step up and take a district director position . I did , found out that it was a rewarding experience and moved forward from there .
Motivation comes from being part of advocacy for the profession . Communicating the needs of rural dentists and patients and what the PDA has to offer us to make our practices more successful . Also promoting the advantages of small-town practices to new dentists trying to find a location to be successful in .
As I transition into the next chapter of my dental career I would like to stay connected and involved with organized dentistry . I ’ d like to still be part of dentistry while not clinically practicing .
If you ’ re considering getting involved , contact your local or district officers , directors or trustees . There are many committees and interest groups that may be a great entry point . I don ’ t think anyone will turn new involvement down and you can be involved at whatever level that works for you .
Motivation comes from being part of advocacy for the profession . Communicating the needs of rural dentists and patients and what the PDA has to offer us to make our practices more successful .
