Since this is Distressed Magazine’ s Black Issue, how do you celebrate your blackness? Being black in this industry [ makes me ] feel blessed. Not even industry wise, no matter what I do, I have pride in being black. I know as I get higher, my personality and character will be key, being black eyes are on you. They expect you to act a certain way, talk a certain way and more. I appreciate that though. I don’ t want to be a statistic, I want to break them and hopefully encourage more of us to reach where we want, no matter what we do because of our skin.
Can you tell us a little bit about your new releases? M y m o s t r e c e n t r e l e a s e i s LONGLIVELXXRY. I was so tired of dropping 3-5 pieces. So, with this I wanted to do unique pieces and quality with higher quantity. I have some pieces for everyone and more. I love what came
What’ s the best advice someone has given you? My homies at Social Status always tell me don’ t focus on Raleigh. So many times I just think“ wow I should be bigger” and no shade [ but ] people rock worse brands and I feel at times my credit isn ' t given. They always remind me my ideas are pure, that my work is set to shine on such a bigger stage. The things I make are straight from me, I don’ t bite like most do here. So it’ s always about keeping my vision set on the bigger picture.
What’ s your favorite saying / quote to live by? Never make a business decision or any decision off of your emotions at the moment. You never know when you may need someone, or if they may put you in a position to reach a new height. [ It’ s ] best to step back and really view what could come out of your choice good or bad.
