Consumer Awareness and Attitudes towards Recycling Over the years consumer action and awareness has increased, gaining a basic knowledge about recycling material and the facilities provided to them. With the enforcement of government legislation and assistance from local councils, less waste and recyclable materials are now ending up on landfill sites. This decreases the issue with air pollution such as carbon emissions and toxic waste. But this all comes at a price for both high street fashion retailers and consumers, costing the retailers considerably more money to buy into the recycling products, consequently adding an additional cost to the price of products, therefore making these items more costly and less appealing to the consumer on purchase. 44
