performances and ticket prices. Some productions are dinner shows that include food. Call if you are unsure about any details.

Here is a noteworthy attraction near Cheyenne for a nice short side trip: the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, which I have been to. Located only about 90 minutes away, it makes for a great day trip while using Cheyenne as your home base. It is home to more than 750 animals, including many endangered species. The zoo sits at a higher elevation and offers outstanding views of Colorado Springs below. This is one of the best and most unique zoos I have ever visited. Parking is free, and you can take a chairlift to the top of the mountain, much like those found at ski resorts, or simply drive your car to the top.

This next attraction is free and very family-oriented, making it a hit with the kids: the Cheyenne Gunslingers. See gunfights, western skits, and other Wild West activities in Gunslinger Square at 15th and Pioneer in downtown Cheyenne. All shows are family-oriented and full of excitement and laughs. Every performance begins with a safety demonstration. Shows are held in June and July, Monday through Friday at 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays at high noon until Frontier Days. During Frontier Days, shows are at noon and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon on Sunday.

Now, you will find that Cheyenne has a wide variety of hotels, motels, vacation rentals, and campgrounds that offer something for everyone. Between hotels, motels, and RV-friendly campsites, you will find the right place to stay. The area features 750 campsites and more than 2,375 guest hotel rooms to meet every taste and budget.

If you want to experience another Wild West attraction, head over to Pine Ranch Horseback Riding. Whether on the trails in Curt Gowdy State Park, Medicine Bow, or Vedauwoo, these folks will bring their horses and tack and guide you through some of the best places to ride. Call for pricing. You can ride for one to four hours and even enjoy lunch or a BBQ dinner.

Speaking of Curt Gowdy State Park, which is one of the places where these horseback rides take place, it is another attraction worth experiencing. Located just 24 miles west of Cheyenne, the park offers hiking and biking trails that wind through scenic landscapes with picturesque views and wildlife. During the warmer months, the park’s lakes are perfect for fishing and kayaking.

Here is a place that sounds like fun: Cheyenne Little Theatre. This community theatre organization has served Cheyenne, the state of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and northern Colorado since 1930. It owns and operates the Mary Godfrey Playhouse and the Historic Atlas Theatre.

Cheyenne Little Theatre Players offers a year-round season of typically six full-scale productions, in addition to other non-season productions. Visit their website for a complete schedule of
