VACATION AND TRAVEL

Park, which is in the city of Leesburg. Surrounding the national cemetery, this regional park preserves the site of the Battle of Ball’s Bluff on October 21, 1861, the largest Civil War engagement to take place in Loudon County near the Potomac River. There are weekend FREE guided tours from April through November, or they have brochures available year-round for FREE self-guided walking tours of the park if you wish to see it that way. Another Battlefield is called, the Bristoe Station Battlefield, which is in the city of Bristoe,

which I visited years ago.

During the American Civil War, two battles and numerous troop encampments occurred at Bristoe Station

on October 14, 1863. This sits on 140 acres, and it is a great place just to stretch your legs and take in the history. There are many more battlefields in this northern area around and near Washington DC that are large and small, some with museums, and others just the battlefield itself, but I find them all to be very nice stops, most all of them are FREE.

There are also many other things to do in Northern Virginia that are also FREE, such as FREE winery tours, FREE brewery tours, many FREE parks and FREE nature preserves, and old historic towns with vintage buildings to see. This is just the northern part of the state, there are many more FREE attractions throughout this state. Have fun while saving some money! Down below is a video of a great historical city to visit while you are in Northern Virginia.
