VACATION AND TRAVEL
“A view of Washington DC from Arlington Cemetery in Virginia “
This place is open all year long, 365 days a year with FREE parking and the admission is for one day or multiple days that have discounted rates, depending on what ticket you purchase. See website for more info! (Everyone employed here is dressed in 1700’s period outfits to really bring this place to life.)
Now, if you wish to be in the area for more than one day, this place does have historic accommodations inside Williamsburg, or chain motels outside and nearby.
Speaking of nearby, you are not far from Jamestown which is part of an area called “America’s Historic Triangle". Discover the world of the settlers who established the first permanent British settlement in the New World at historic Jamestown, a National preserved Historic Park.
“Courthouse, Governor’s mansion & the business area of Colonial Williamsburg”
Then visit Jamestown Settlement where in 1607 a nation takes root, explore artifact-filled exhibit galleries, board replicas of the Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery ships, and also, see re-creations of a Powhatan Indian village, and a 1610 to 1614 English fort. I’ve been there and it is right on the James River! They have a package deal with Jamestown Settlement & American Revolutionary War Museum at Yorktown right on the York River, if you wish to see both. Yorktown Battlefield is also nearby where the revolutionary war ended! This place has a lot to see and do there like Williamsburg does, which both by themselves can be an all-day attraction.
In conclusion; Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown form “Virginia’s Historic Triangle”, and are all linked by the scenic “Colonial Parkway”, which are easily reached via Interstates 95 and 64 and U.S. Route 17. This area is spectacular in the fall foliage months of October and November. I’ve personally visited all 3 places over the years!
