VACATION AND TRAVEL

memorable musical numbers such as "The Boy Next Door," "A Day In New York," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." “Meet Me in St. Louis” is a show that sparkles with optimism and good tunes, perfect for a holiday celebration with the whole family! On Wednesday December 18th, they have a FREE movie shown called, “It’s a Wonderful Life”. There are many volunteers here with many FREE events throughout the year to enjoy at this amazing theater, some are live while others are movies. (I believe they have 2000 seats in the Lerner Theater! If you need more information call (574)-293-4469 to verify times and dates or go to their website.)

While you are in the Amish area during this time of the year, the city of

Nappanee’s doesn’t offer many holiday related attractions, but never the less it’s still a great place to spend the holiday season.

I have personally stayed at two Inns in town, one being, “The Inn at Amish Acres” and the other the “Nappanee Inn”,

now called the “Country Side Inn". I personally like staying in Shipshewana better and then drive over to Nappanee’s for a day trip to the restaurant and theater.

At Amish Acres is the “Threshers Restaurant", which is family style dining in a hand-hewn barn setting and the adjacent “Round Barn Theater". I’ve been to this theater three times and every time was a great experience. There is more happening there, so see their website!

Anyway, by the time you’re reading this article by me, they will be having a live production of “Beauty and the Beast” from Friday November 8th until Tuesday December 31st.

Now, if you are there on Thanksgiving, November 28th , they’re having a Thanksgiving Buffet for $20 dollars featuring Roast Turkey and Country Baked Ham with all the trimmings.

Nappanee’s is only 36 miles from Shipshewana being a 43 minute drive. So, if you stay in Shipshewana or Middlebury, you are in the heart of the Amish country with the cities of Goshen, Nappanee, Elkhart, Bristol and Wakarusa all nearby. All these Amish cities are located in Elkhart County. This is one of the best places to experience all year long with many other things I didn’t list, so check out the Elkhart County website. Have fun and Happy Holidays!
