What does it mean to reach your higher self? If you find yourself undervaluing your worth, having self-doubts and subconsciously limiting your own success, you could be giving your lower self too much airtime. If you set a low standard for everything in your life, you’ll invite just that. In the words of Tony Robbins, “If you don’t set a baseline standard for what you’ll accept in life, you’ll find it’s easy to slip into behaviors and attitudes or a quality of life that’s far below what you deserve.”

But what exactly are your higher and lower selves? And how can you leverage them to excel in all facets of life and business? Religious and spiritual practices often call the higher self the “divine spark” in all of us. But success isn’t magic or mysterious. Which means neither is reaching your higher self. Both can be found by consistently applying universal principles.

Use these five principles for success to achieve more, get unstuck and stop beating yourself up for your mistakes.

1. Start taking responsibility.

When you start taking responsibility for all aspects of your life, you can begin

to change any aspect of your life. It’s all about taking complete ownership of your choices and how they influence your reality. When you take responsibility, you take back control. Going back to Tony Robbins’ quote, even the “baseline standard” for what you’ll accept in your life is a choice that only you hold. This seems like common knowledge, but surprisingly few people practice it. Take responsibility by setting priorities, embracing discomfort, staying disciplined and wiping excuses from your vocabulary.

2. Visualize your success.

Seeing your future with your mind’s eye — nearly every hyper-successful person will tell you they do it. Athletes
