THE SPIRIT IN YOU
" .... but a child's courage comes from so many genuine elements, such as hope, trust and innocence."
Courage is something that most grown-ups know how to display when a situation requires it, but a child's courage comes from so many genuine elements, such as hope, trust and innocence. They just don't know anything else to do but hold on and weather the storm. Their eyes twinkle and their smiles light up the room, although, they do not quite understand what is happening to them. They persevere without knowledge of what lies ahead for them, and they do it valiantly. Blind faith-they take each day anticipating the next day will get better for them, and that gives them the reason to hold on.
When I saw these children at the Karmanos Cancer Treatment Center, I smiled and thought to myself, if they can do it, I can do it too. I wanted to cry just looking at them; I suppose it was because I felt sorry for them. I did not want to see them there. It was enough just dealing with my own treatments. The thought of them being in that place let me know that sickness certainly does not discriminate, but what I witnessed during that time caused me to prevail. What was it? Oh, please understand it was not the words that were exchanged; it was the light in their eyes that made me smile and know that courage is here, and there was enough courage for me too.
"How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings," (Psalms 36:7, KJV).
