Niagara Falls, Canada
This next trip I’m writing about is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime, especially if you’re from Michigan because of the location of this top of the line attraction right in our backyard, so to speak. When I was growing up as a kid, Niagara Falls’ slogan was they were noted as being the “Honeymoon Capital of the World” based on many statistics given throughout the years. I’ve personally been here five times because it’s only 250 miles from my house, and less than five hours by car or truck.
Nowadays, the city of Niagara Falls plays host to about 50,000 honeymooning couples a year as of 2014; and Niagara Falls Tourism even gives out honeymoon certificates signed by the mayor. The city has given out almost one million of these certificates to date.
One of my five trips there was actually my honeymoon after getting married back in 1980. I found this place to be a great place to visit after being a newlywed of only hours. There are many hotels which cater to newly married people in the form of honeymoon specials, honeymoon suites in different hotels, while some are very close to the falls.
On one trip, I stayed at the Marriot Hotel which boasts as being the closest hotel to Horseshoe Falls in Canada. The window in my room had a front row seat with an outstanding view of the falls right outside my bedroom window below me. Out of my five trips, all five visits were on the Canadian side of the falls, but some people stay on the American side in Buffalo, New York where they are near the “American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.”
