my eyes out in their back office where I felt safe, employees would come in periodically and even though they did not know what I was going through, and offered comfort. I sat in the office wondering where to go from there. If I should continue writing. If I would ever walk back into my current Church or any Church at all because I did not want to be lumped into being a hateful Christian. I wondered how I could be apparently “Too far gone”, if I was vividly feeling the peace of God in me? Why do others feel they have the right to tell me where I am going after I pass, even though I have been in different forms of ministry for years? How is being mean and hateful an accurate representation of the God that I serve? My God is a Heavenly father of LOVE and forgiveness, who spent time with prostitutes and tax collectors.
The messages continued for days. I attended my current Church the next week, with my head held high and a smile on my face. I received some looks of confusion, looks of ‘hate,’ and received some hugs out of love. I now attend on a semi regular basis. From this experience, I have learned to take the love of Christ outside of a building even more then ever. My home may not always be clean, but it is absolutely always open. I have visitors over for coffee or dinner on a regular basis. I do not care if they consider themselves to be religious or not, I just want to shine the light of Christ in ways that they may need. I have invited those who hurt me, over for a meal. Yet, none of them have accepted my offer.
I encourage you to go against the ‘norm.’ Even if that means not going against ungodly habits that are formed in your own church pews (gossiping, judging
others, gluttony, etc.). Open your heart, and your door. Make others wonder what is different about you, and work towards changing the reputation that Christians are hateful and bitter.
"But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
