WHAT GOD PUTS TOGETHER
Seasons in Marriage
Article by Dr. Tunishai Ford
Believe it or not, when you are married for any length of time, it goes through different seasons and it takes both parties to a new level of commitment, love and even knowledge of one another. When a couple first gets married, they are in a season of bliss. Everything smells like roses and all they see is the wonderful man or woman that they fell in love with. They are engulfed in spending every waking moment with each other. Each time they make love is like the very first time. Every kiss and embrace is like the very first one. Even when there is display of faults, they are more apt to be tolerant of them.
My bride, my very own, you have stolen my heart! (Song of Solomon 4: 9, CEV)
The next season of marriage is a season of maturity, and stability. The honeymoon is not completely over, but now there are children to take care of and planning in creating a stable home involving financial security. Each partner finds themselves working in a career and obtaining the material items they deem necessary to make them happy. Yes, there are date
nights, but many of the family outings may often include children and/ or other family members (Proverbs 31: 10 - 31).
The last season is the season of relaxation and comfort. During this season, the children are grown and independent of you. You both are traveling and the only baggage you have is your luggage. For many the mortgage is paid off and you are finally able to do many of the things you could only dream about. Now it is just the two of you and your love has gone to a level where you know you have gone from being in love to being engulfed in love. This is your soul mate and your best friend. No one knows you better than this man or woman, and you are content with each other (I Peter 3: 7). These are your golden years and you have "been there and done that". Now all you do is whatever you want to do.
"....your love has gone to a level where you know you have gone from being in love to being engulfed in love."
