A God Wink for a
Detroit Public School Teacher
Many years ago when I was employed with Detroit Public Schools as a substitute teacher, the school system gave me medical insurance, but they did not cover my son who was eight years old at that time. (He is now thirty-nine years old.) In order to receive benefits for your dependents, a substitute teacher had to have the same assignment for at least twenty consecutive days. That was my desire but I had no idea how I was going to achieve that goal.
I decided to put my faith to the test and I started praying and asking God for favor(Luke 2: 52). I wanted to have a subbing assignment for at least twenty days or more. Now at that time long term subbing assignments were not easy to get although a few times I came very close. I continued to pray and believe that God would move on my behalf because my son needed medical insurance. As a mother, I was always
concerned about my son's well-being and that also included his health.
I went on with my life and pretty much forgot about the prayer. My job and activities with my son kept me extremely busy. The year was coming to an end; in fact, it was the last day of school when I got my wonderful "God Wink". I called the school in which I was assigned and asked if they needed me to come in that day; although I was assigned at a school, I still had to call in daily to see if I was needed. If I was not needed at my assigned school, I had the option of calling another school for work or elect to just take the day off. Well this particular day when I called the school, they did not need me to come in. I was going to take the day off and start my Christmas break early, but I had a very strong unction to call a school that I had subbed at several times before.
