“Helpful Tips in

Applying for a Job”

Article by Michael Joseph Lynch

Looking for a job and filling out applications can be very stressful to say the least. The market place is changing all the time with many companies having potential new employees applying online, but when you do get that call for that one-on-one with the person conducting the interview; you then need to be prepared on how to increase your chances of getting hired.

Now, as a store manager looking for potential new employees, it all starts with the job application long before the interview. One thing that turned me off a lot was a person who wrote sloppy and who would not fill out the entire application leaving many unanswered questions. If you need to fill out an application that’s not offered online then take it home with you, because you do not want to fill it out at the store. I found out most of the time by rushing the process you forget dates and you may even start misspelling words as I have already witnessed with a few applicants in my day. You can tell a lot from a person by how they fill out an application long before you meet them; do they have legible penmanship, is the application filled out completely, does it appear as they seem to go from job to job every six months or less, which is a red flag to me. There are many things that I look at long before I even call a person in for an interview. Most people never make it past the job applications phase because of things that I have already touched on. If your phone is not ringing after filling out an application days later, it could be because you did not follow up to show your interest in whatever company you are applying for,

Working as a store manager for seven years when I was younger, I interviewed many people, while hiring just a select few. I found that some people do not know how to handle an interview because this may not be something that is taught in school. I had people show up for an interview, for instance, in torn up shorts or jeans drinking a fountain drink, because they were so unpolished in their manners. Some people are their own worst enemy.
