BEFORE YOU SAY "I DO"

Article by Dr. Tunishai Ford

"He That Finds a Wife Finds a

Good Thing and Obtains

Favor from the Lord"

(Proverbs 18:22).

"He that finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord" (Proverbs 18:22).

This is a profound statement, and it holds principles that come with a promise. I do not think that too many people have truly digested what this scripture means. First of all, God commissions a man to find a wife to seek and look diligently for a wife. Ladies, it does not mean you go looking for him; I wish I could shout that from a mountaintop. Then the scripture goes on to say when he finds her, it's good. God says that it is good because he pursued her and she was anticipating being found, but she was waiting not looking. Now this is the part of the scripture I'd like to emphasize. -- he obtains favor from the Lord.

When the man looks and finds his wife (helpmate, companion, lover, best friend), God says she is a good thing (He puts His stamp of approval on her grade A), and then the husband obtains favor from God (prosperity, provision, happiness, joy, unmerited favor, unconditional love, etc, etc....). This is a promise from God. When a man and a woman enter into holy matrimony and their motives are pure and they honor the covenant that God created for marriage, then they will experience from the beginning to the end of their marriage God's best or what I would call the wealth in the marriage.

"This is a promise from God. When a man and a woman enter into holy matrimony and their motives

are pure...."
