Here are over 100 cultural events spread throughout the year (International
Theatre Festival). The city also hosts sport events, like Sibiu Tour, which is
the most important bicycle race in S-E Europe, Sibiu Rally, Red Bull
Romaniacs, and many others.
In 2007 Sibiu was declared the European Cultural Capital.
The most important attractions though, are the Council Tower, located
between the 2 most important squares (especially the Big Square and its
Christmas fair), the Brukenthal Museum (the oldest museum in Romania)
which has 800 paintings and 12 rooms, the Evangelical Church, the Astra
open air museum, which synthesize the traditional way of living, the defense
walls and towers, the churches, the zoo (the oldest zoo from Romania) and
last but not least, the Bridge of Lies. There is a legend saying that if
someone says a lie while standing on the bridge, it will crush.
1. Sighisoara
The second city included in this top is Sighisoara. It is situated in the heart of
Transylvania, more exactly in Mures County. The Medieval Fortress of
Sighisoara has a connection with Vlad Tepes’ father, Vlad Dracul, who lived
here.
